Friends of Lumbutts Chapel, the new community group set up to preserve the local Methodist chapel for long-term community use, wants to hear from anyone with an interest in developing the chapel building for the future benefit of the local community.

Lumbutts Chapel held its final service in December 2013 and the Methodist Circuit is likely to dispose of the building in the near future.

The local community has been given the opportunity to come forward with a viable proposal to use the chapel as a community resource for the benefit of everyone in the locality.

The Friends group has received a small grant from the Social Investment Business to look at potential future uses for the building and is holding an “ideas” workshop at the chapel in Lumbutts village on Wednesday, August 6, at 7.30pm. The workshop is open to anyone from the local community and the Friends group is particularly interested in hearing from community, arts, sports and well-being organisations with ideas for using the building in the future.

“Lumbutts Chapel has served the local community since 1837 – it is the only community space in the village and as a community we are determined that the Chapel remains open to the town and has a future at the heart of the local community. If you can’t make this meeting, keep in touch through our Facebook page Friends Of Lumbutts Chapel or through our blog lumbuttschapel.blogspot.co.uk,” said Alison Lowe, of Friends of Lumbutts Chapel

The group will also host a family fun day and barbecue at the chapel at 2pm on Saturday, August 23, open to all.
