A CHARITY set up in honour of tragic fall victim Sarah Royle has had a boost with an invite to a Government event.

Friends and family of the 31-year-old of Hebden Bridge, who died last June when she fell from a balcony in Singapore, have set up a repatriation charity called Return.

They hope it will help families who have lost a loved one abroad.

Sarah’s sisters Jo and Premsa, of Todmorden, faced many difficulties in bringing her body home because of uncertainty in whether the insurance company would pay the costs.

Family friend Julia Curtis was invited to the Foreign Office in London for a networking event – Know Before You Go campaign.

The campaign involves the Foreign Office working with more than 400 partners to help Brits stay safe and healthy abroad.

Julia said: “It was very successful. The Know Before You Go team said that they would add us as partners once we are up and running and also involve us in some of their communications and perhaps help to support our campaigns.

“The people I spoke to were very interested in the fact that there is no central database that families can tap into when they lose a relative abroad, to check whether they had a travel insurance policy.”

The charity is still in its early stages and requires a treasurer so it can register with Companies House.

Julia said: “We are looking for an accountant to take on the role as I want to start the charity off on a good, strong footing.

“We are also looking for a solicitor with specialist charity knowledge who can help us on a pro bono basis with the legalities in offering financial assistance.

“We will probably launch in an advisory capacity and hope to raise awareness of insurance terms and conditions.

“We would like to campaign for a central database where all sold travel insurance policies must be registered so families can find out about insurance if their loved ones die abroad. We have received lots of support so far.”
