It’s your chance to give voice to town

Todmorden is a town with plenty of stories to tell.

So, following the success of the original Voices of Todmorden dramatic writing competition, TAODS (Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society) has decided to launch a new competition for 2011 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The challenge is to write a monologue – a piece of text for one person to perform - of between 1500 and 2000 words including all stage directions (for a total length of between five to ten minutes when performed).

The theme is, suitably, ‘Silver’, which can be interpreted in any way, shape or form. The piece must in some way refer to, or be set in, Todmorden.

It can be totally fictional, or based on a true story. It can be of whatever genre you choose - autobiographical, historical, comic, dramatic, or farcical, but it must be an original piece of work.

The competition is free to enter and has no restriction on age or geographical location. Up to two entries per person will be accepted but they must be received before the deadline of 5pm on Friday, June 24

All submissions will be judged independently by a panel of three local arts professionals with a wealth of dramatic writing experience behind them.

All entrants will be notified as to whether they have been shortlisted by the end of August. These authors will then have their monologues produced and performed at the Todmorden Hippodrome in the Autumn season.

All entries should be written in English and the script should clearly state the title of the piece. It must be accompanied by a cover sheet with the name and address of the author, the title of the monologue, number of words and a contact number and email address if possible.

This cover sheet will be separated from the script to maintain impartiality in the judging so author’s names must not appear on the script itself. Each entry must be accompanied by a SAE for notification, though scripts cannot be returned so please do not send your only copy.

You should send or deliver your entry to: Voices of Todmorden 2011, c/o Winslow’s Opticians, 11 Halifax Road, Todmorden, United Kingdom, OL14 5DL.
