COUNCILLORS have turned down a request to contribute funding for the ‘Lucky Dog’ tourist trail in Centre Vale Park.
Calderdale Council wrote to Todmorden Town Council asking if it would consider giving £1,350 towards the cost of the stone path and hard-standing area around the statue. But members of the amenities committee voted against the request.
Coun Frank McManus said: “This dog project is the most ridiculous thing I have come across in all my years as a councillor.”
Coun David O’Neill was disappointed that the request came in after the work had been done.
“My recommendation to Calderdale Council is don’t do the work before asking for the money in future,” he said.
Coun Richard White said it has become a popular tourist attraction.
The decision will go before full town council for ratification.
