ONE of Todmorden’s oldest residents is anticipating her fourth telegram from the Queen on Saturday.
Mabel Fielden, who lives at Millreed Lodge in Walsden, will celebrate her 107th birthday on May 26.
Relatives will visit to mark the occasion with her.
“I’m looking forward to it,” she said.
She has already received telegrams from the Queen on her 100th, 105th and 106th birthdays, and is looking forward to another this weekend. “They are lovely,” she said. “She is so nice.”
Mabel is a big fan of the Royal Family.
She remembers watching Queen Elizabeth’s coronation and will be tuning in to watch the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on television.
Mabel was raised in Lydgate and went to Robinwood School.
She started part time work as a weaver aged 12 and later went to work at a slipper shop on Stansfield Road.
She had a brother and four sisters.
She met her husband, Albert, while working at Mons Mill.
They had their wedding at Lineholme Baptist Church in 1931 and were married for more than 40 years before Albert passed away.
Mabel has two children - Anona and Raymond.
She also has two grandchildren - Alistair and Helen.
“I was thinking, I must be the last of my playmates,” Mabel said.
