One lane less at roundabout would slow traffic down

A ROUNDABOUT entrance in Todmorden town centre should be one lane rather than two to slow traffic down, safety campaigners believe.

Members of Todmorden Accident Prevention Council were discussing concerns they had seen, experienced and had reported to them about the pedestrian crossing on Halifax Road opposite Water Street.

They say the problem stems from the crossing’s proximity to the town centre roundabout, with vehicles from Burnley Road sometimes travelling around the corner into Halifax Road at “excessive speed” for the road conditions, they say.

Members have suggested the entrance from Burnley Road onto the roundabout should be reduced from two lanes to one, causing a greater number of vehicles to slow and concluding “the actual loss of three or four car lengths is considered insignificant in traffic flow.” Their views have been passed on to Calderdale Council’s highways department.
