The traditional formal “Mayor Making” ceremony is on hold pending hopefully the removal of Covid restrictions towards the end of June.

Normally held at the Town Hall, once there is a green light to return to full use of the Town Hall, Councillors will then consider taking this forward.

Councillor Pat Taylor was elected to Stoodley Ward, Todmorden Town Council, in May 2019 since when she has been actively involved in representing resident’s interests through an active social media presence.

The Mayor said: “I was thrilled to be elected The Mayor of Todmorden and am extremely fortunate to be working with such a very skilled group of Town Councillors and Staff.

"Since becoming a Councillor, I have been a keen promoter of our wonderful Historic Market Town, with its independent shops, businesses and Markets aside the Pennine Way.

"As we navigate cautiously out of the Road Map for Lockdown, I see our town coming back to life.

"Around every corner there is renewed vigour, and a dynamic we can all support. By shopping local and using local businesses as much as possible, we are Enabling our town to Advance and Thrive (EAT) and this has fuelled my drive and determination to help Todmorden move toward recovery. As a councillor I have always sought to be visible and active within the community, which I will certainly carry on as Mayor as soon as we are safely able to do so.

"I watched distraught during the terrible times with floods as the floodwaters caused major disruption as they raged down from the moorland, causing landslides and flooding to houses and business from the edge of the moor right down to the valley bottom. It is with this in mind that I have chosen my Mayoral Charity with great care and am delighted that “Slow The Flow” have agreed for me to nominate them as my Mayoral Charity. Slow The Flow is an organisation I have followed since before I became a Councillor and I will be delighted to aid them as much as I am able to during my year as Mayor.”

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mathew Doyle, elected to represent Walsden Ward in May 2019, said “ It is a great honour to be elected Deputy Mayor and I look forward to supporting the Mayor during her Mayoral year”

Todmorden Town Clerk Colin Hill said “We look forward to being able to hold the Mayor Making ceremony this year and with it, the opportunity for the Town Council to formally say thank you to two previous Mayors impacted by the Covid 19 Pandemic, Councillor Ken White, partially impacted in 2019/20 and Councillor Ruth Coleman – Taylor in 2020/21, her whole Mayoral year.”
