A PUB will go pink to raise money to pay for a Todmorden woman’s relative to receive treatment for breast cancer in America.
Susan Whittaker’s cousin, Bev Dransfield, who is battling cancer for the second time, has travelled to a clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, for an alternative course of treatment involving low levels of chemotherapy, a special diet and homeopathic remedies.
Bev’s treatment will cost up to £60,000 and the Woodpecker Inn, Rochdale Road, Todmorden, has organised a day of fundraising on Saturday, February 5, to support her.
Staff are encouraging everybody to wear pink bras, tutus and other items of clothing during the day.
There will also be raffles with several prizes and people will be going around Todmorden with pink buckets to collect donations. The event is one of a number of fundraisers being planned by family, friends and colleagues of 42-year-old Bev.
She was first diagnosed with stage three breast cancer seven years ago. After undergoing a course of chemotherapy, a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, she was given the all clear.
The mother of two found out in November that the cancer had returned and spread to her lungs, liver and lymphatic system.
