COUNCILLORS have criticised the reduction of opening hours at Todmorden Library.
At last week’s town meeting, Todmorden town councillor Frank McManus moved a motion calling on Calderdale Council to restore the recent cuts.
Fellow town councillors agreed that the reduced opening times were regrettable.
Coun Mark Catterall said: “Libraries are essential to education, to young people and to people who have limited access to reading material. They are really important.”
Coun David O’Neill said the town council should write to Calderdale Council to say the cutbacks are unacceptable.
“The people of Todmorden deserve a library,” he said.
The issue was referred to the town council’s amenities committee.
