Springing into life at the Hippodrome Theatre, Todmorden, next week, you can expect music and laughs aplenty at Todmorden gang Show - and a moment or two for some reflection too.
Taking material from many sources, be it top films, classic musicals, pop smashes and the show’s own Ralph Reader songbook, Todmorden Gang Show usually keeps on looking forward.
But the 2015 show, which runs at 7.30pm each night at the Hippodrome, in Halifax Road (doors open 7pm), from Thursday, May 14. to Saturday, May 16 inclusive, there will be a backward glance in tribute to Gang Show stalwart Jackie “Mac” McGoldrick, who passed away last year.
From cub to adult leader, Jackie was in all the first 50 Gang Shows, a record thatis unlikely to ever be equalled.
Producer Rowena Goldthorpe said: “I had left out the traditional ‘walk across’ in the show’s opening sequence and Jackie didn’t agree with me. This year we will be having a walk across in both the opening anf the finale, as a tribute to him.”
This year’s opening numbers include Eveerything Is Awesome from the Lego Movie - expressing the importance of working as a team.
Audiences will take a trip to the circus with the Gang Show Juniors, who will be “Clowning Around” and first half skecthes include “Hallelujah”.
The first half of the show will close with s super singalong Take That megamix, with the Gang ready to raise the roof with choice cuts like Rule The World, Back For Good, Shine and Relight My Fire.
Ready to dazzle your eyes and ears further at the start of the second half is a selection of numbers from the musical Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat. “As well as chorus numbers this will give some of our youngsters the chance to sing solo,we have a young solo narrator and a very young Joseph. We’ll be delivering our own Joseph megamix of songs from the show,” said Rowena.
A Katy Perry track provides the sounds for a great dance number and there are more skecthes before a rousing routine of songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, before the finale once again gives a nod to Jackie Mac.
