A SPECIAL guest visited children to show them how to stay safe on the road.
Stan the Lollipop Man called in at Shade Primary School, Todmorden, in the run-up to Christmas to give road safety advice to youngsters in the nursery and reception class.
With the help of Spikey the hedgehog, Stan showed the children what to do when waiting to cross the road and reminded them to always wear a seatbelt in the car.
Stan said: “It’s giving them the key message of staying safe on the roads - holding hands, staying away from roads as much as possible, and making sure they wear seatbelts at all times.
“It also helps to make sure parents check the seatbelts are on.
“Since the programme started, the number of under-fives getting hurt on the roadside is going down.
“The message is getting through, so much so that Calderdale Council is extending the number of visits.”
Nursery nurse Gillian Greenwood said: “All the children enjoyed it. It’s a good way to get the message across.”
