Summer means fun at weekend art courses

The Back Door Education project at Northlight Art Studios is expanding and reaching out!

“We’re knocking down an office space to create more room for our classes,” explains co-ordinator Don Myers.

The improvements to their Hangingroyd Lane premises is great news for those wanting a truly creative experience this summer.

Back Door is offering a series of Art Summer School Weekend courses throughout the summer period.

The first is a Colour Weekend on June 30/July 1, led by Northlight artists and designers. In a weekend devoted to colour the aim is to boost “colour confidence” in painting and beyond through workshop sessions.

A Life Work Weekend follows on July 14 and 16 with four very different 2D and 3D approaches to working from the life model.

An addition to the programme is Collect, Design, Articulate on July 28 and 29. Designer and automata maker Lisa Slater leads this fun weekend – a novel approach to the art of puppet making involving gathering natural materials on a woodland walk, crafting with wood and then designing and constructing an imaginative outcome.

Finally there’s another chance to join Mary Loney MBE on her popular Approaches To Townscape weekend – a day’s sketching outside and interpreting sketches in the studio.
