A number of improvements are taking place at the centre but in order for the work to be carried out, certain parts will be out of bounds from July 25.

The centre will fully reopen on bank holiday Monday, August 29.

One of the main changes involves repairs to the pool, with the moveable floor set to be fixed.

As a result, the pool will be completely drained of water, a deep clean will take place and the grouting will also be addressed.

Other issues to be addressed include upgrading the cafe and dance studio and creating a new access point to the sauna site.

Other areas will be redecorated and general maintenance will take place where required.

Whilst this work takes place, the sports hall, upstairs dance studio and outdoor areas will all remain open and available to book, either at reception, over the phone or online.

To avoid disruption to schools and children’s swimming lessons, this work has been scheduled during the school holidays.

Although this means that the usual school holiday swimming programme will not run at Todmorden, there are alternative swimming facilities available in Sowerby Bridge, Halifax and Brighouse.

Susan Press, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Communities, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause during the summer break.

“However, this refurbishment will ensure that the centre remains a top quality sports venue all year round, and will improve the experience for our customers.”
