Two leading women from Calderdale have been recognised at an award ceremony today for their contribution to the community.
Angela Everson, Chief Executive of WomenCentre for Calderdale & Kirklees and Wendy Moffat, headteacher of The Crossley Heath School, are this year’s Inspire Awards winners.
The awards are organised each year by Calderdale College to champion people who have made a difference in the local area.
Mrs Everson said: “It’s not often I’m lost for words but I really am speechless. It’s lovely to be recognised, especially in Calderdale because I’ve worked here since 1987.
“It’s a real honour and I’m pleased that the work we do here at WomenCentre is being celebrated.”
Mrs Everson has been working with women and their children in the voluntary and community sector for the past 18 years, including victims of domestic abuse.
Mrs Moffat said: “Winning an Inspire Award is a great honour. I have to say I was very surprised.
“I think it’s lovely that the college are recognising the value of education and supporting other professionals in their work.”
Mrs Moffat says she is passionate about education and is committed to making Crossley Heath, which is already a great school, even greater.
She was born in Brighouse and has taught in a number of schools in the area, including Rastrick High School and Haugh Shaw Secondary.
