AS part of the Rochdale Canal Festival, Hebden Bridge Cruises and The Horseboating Society are running horse drawn canal boat cruises on Thursday, August 18, and Thursday, August 25.
Phil Kennedy, of Hebden Bridge Cruises, said: “These unique day cruises give people the chance to travel back in time and see and hear how our forefathers travelled in the days before railways or tarmac roads and when canals were the height of advanced travel.
“They were the high speed train of their day!” The canal boat will be pulled by the popular boat horse Bilbo, supplied by Sue Day, chairperson of The Horseboating Society.
Bilbo has contributed to the Rochdale Canal Festival in previous years, pulling historic cargo boats, but this is the first time that the festival can offer horse-drawn passenger trips aboard a purpose built passenger boat.
Each day cruise leaves Hebden Bridge at 10am, passing through five locks before arriving in the market town of Todmorden in time for lunch. The return trip leaves Todmorden at 3pm arriving back in Hebden Bridge at 6pm. Boathorse harnessing demonstrations will be given half an hour before departure.
Ticket prices start at £9.95 for an adult single.
