Census processer a matter for concern

Burnley Road,

I received my 2011 Census form the other day and it requires me, by law, to provide an whole lot of personal information.

Evidently, the UK Government has contracted out the data processing for the 2011 Census to Lockheed Martin, a firm of American arms dealers.

All US-based companies are subject to the Patriot Act, which allows the US government to have access to any data in the company’s possession.

This could give the US government access, by law, to detailed and personal data on the UK’s entire population!

I don’t know how other people in Todmorden feel about this but I, for one, am very concerned that my personal details could fall into the hands of a foreign power with a dubious record on human rights.
