EACH generation leaves its mark where they live.
Is our mark going to be yet another supermarket that will probably spell the begining of the end of our wonderful market hall, the envy of numerous nearby towns?
Lets face it this proposal has been well thought through by Calderdale Council to serve the retail needs of Hebden Bridge, who don’t want a supermarket on their doorstep. Yet they have a piece of derelict land opposite the Stubbing Wharf which is ideal for a small supermarket. Let’s put the marina proposal to a vote amongst the population of Todmorden.
To me this marina proposal gives us the chance to create a much needed shot in the arm for our own tourist trade. We are short of tourist beds in the town. If the marina development was to be extended up to Key Syke Lane small industrial units could be built too, I believe that this land already has had permission granted for a mix of residential and commercial use.
This development would create a similar amount of jobs to the supermarket and leave our mark on the town for future generations to enjoy.
