Hastings, East Sussex.
I WAS very proud in the mid 1950s to work at the Olympia Cinema as part-time assistant projectionist.
The original facade with a decked tiered canopy was delightful.
The rot set in when Star Cinemas took it over and removed the fab coloured glass chandeliers to replace them with miserable plastic star-shaped ones. Later on the huge glass canopy over the frontage was taken away - who gave them planning permission?
I read councillors find the facade unattractive. Well, it is now, with original features removed, trees growing out of the structure and generally filthy. The new owners should be required to keep the facade and give an undertaking to restore all original features.
As it used to be, a building we can all be proud of.
