THE Lancashire Amatruer Shield game against Blackpool Wren Rovers was a step too far for a Borough side showing eight changes due to injuries and unavailability.
Despite that they put up a good performance against a side lying fourth in the Premier Division.
While always the underdogs the Division Two side weathered the early storm but finally conceded on 30 minutes to a goal from a well-worked passing move.
Borough had their best chance with a long-range effort from Oliver Wood which hit the post. Otherwise they had to defend deep with Lee McGrath in goal having a fine game.
But only trailing 1 - 0 at half-time, the visitors felt they had a chance of at least levelling.
The second half continued in much the same vein until with 20 minutes to go Borough lost another goal to a quick break by the home side.
As Borough tired Rovers got two more goals in the last 10 minutes, one from a ricochet among the Borough defenders and the last a simple headed goal from a corner.
Borough now have chance to regroup for a home league match on Saturday against second from bottom Milnthorpe Corinthians.
They hope to have several of their players back to consolidate their challenge as they currently lie in fifth place but with games in hand over the sides above them.
