FOLLOWING the recent announcement that the Lancashire Cricket League Competition and the Worsley Cup are to be sponsored by Heineken UK Ltd, the league, in which Todmorden play, has also attracted a new sponsor for the 20/20 competition.
Burnley-based independent brewers, Moorhouses, have agreed to sponsor the 20/20 competition for the next three years until December 31, 2014.
League chairman Mike Bibby said the League Executive were delighted to have been able to attract such a well-known local company as sponsors of one of its competitions.
He said the league, which this year has its 120th anniversary, is proud to be associated with Moorhouses, who were formed in 1865.
“We look forward to working with the directors and staff of Moorhouses in promoting their business and working together to ensure our league 20/20 competition goes from strength to strength over the next three years,” he said.
The competition is played on consecutive Friday evenings throughout June and early July.
The Lancashire League’s three main competitions will now be called the Fosters Lancashire Cricket League, the Fosters Worsley Cup and the Moorhouses Brewery Lancashire Cricket League 20/20 Competition.
l TODMORDEN Cricket Club is holding a number of events to mark its 175th anniversary.
Club spokesperson Cathy Rudderforth said: “We really hope that many of the people of Todmorden will come along and take pleasure in their town’s lovely cricket club and we guarantee a warm welcome to them all.”
The next 175th anniversary event is Northern Soul/60s, 70s, 80s night with DJ Bob Smith on Saturday March 3.
Tickets are just £5. It is fancy dress too for those who wish. Tickets can be obtained from the club.
As part of the anniversary, the club is hoping to attract players to join darts and pool teams at the club to take part in the various leagues run within the town.
