Cricketers weigh up fixture options

Sunday, May 22 is due to be one of the busiest days in the Spenser Wilson Halifax League calendar with games in the second round of the Parish Cup and Crossley Shield, as well as round robin matches in the third teams’ Rod Warhurst Trophy.

Clubs will be offered two options at Tuesday’s league meeting at Pellon Social Club (7.45pm) and will then have seven days to make their preferred choice by electronic vote to league secretary Alan Ford.

Option One: Cup and Shield games to take place as scheduled on May 22 with June 5 the reserve date. If both clubs agree that the fixture cannot be fulfilled on May 22 then the fixture can be played to a conclusion on June 5, using a bowl out if necessary.

Option Two: All games to be played on May 29 with a reserve date of June 5.

Clubs are advised that May 29 is a Bank Holiday weekend and Bradford City could be involved in the League One play off final on this date.

Representatives will have an opportunity on Tuesday to ask questions regarding the options but league chiefs say no alternative suggestions will be considered.

Once the result of the vote is known, a decision will be made on Rod Warhurst Trophy fixtures.

Ford, in an email to clubs, said: “The Halifax Cricket League executive would like to thank clubs for their understanding and co-operation with this difficult situation that has arisen.

“Any decisions reached are made with the best of intentions.”

Tuesday’s meeting will also include a vote on Illingworth’s application to join the Halifax League from the Aire/Wharfe League in 2017.
