It was a familiar tale as the Cheshire side beat them 2-0 at Cantilever Park, the result of all three meetings between the sides this season.

Warrington, who are 12 points clear and could clinch the title at Glossop North End next Saturday, were kept waiting for their opening goal.

A Ciaran Kilheeney penalty just before half time gave them the lead and Steven Gillespie got a second after 79 minutes to virtually end the visitors’ hopes.

Brighouse, who slip a place to 14th, have five matches left in the next 20 days, starting at home to Northwich Victoria next Saturday.
