BURNLEY will face former manager Owen Coyle’s Bolton Wanderers at Turf Moor on the opening day of the new Football League Championship season on Saturday, August 18.
Coyle took the Clarets up to the Premiership in 2009 but many Burnley fans have never forgiven him for leaving the club to go to the Reebok in January 2010, half-way through the top flight campaign at the end of which Burnley were relegated.
The sides have met since Coyle’s departure, but supporters of the Turf Moor club will be relishing the clash following Bolton’s relegation.
The other long-awaited Lancashire derby resumes on Saturday, December 1, when Burnley entertain rivals Blackburn Rovers, while they are also home to Blackpool on Saturday, October 20, in another red rose clash.
Burnley see out August on the road at Middlesbrough (Tuesday, August 21) and newly-promoted Huddersfield (Saturday, August 28).
Leeds United travel to Turf Moor on Tuesday, November 6, completing a mouth-watering set of home fixtures in the first half of the season.
The return fixtures in the New Year see Eddie Howe’s men travel to Bolton on Saturday, February 9, Blackburn on Saturday, March 16, Blackpool on Saturday, April 13, and, three days later, Leeds on Tuesday, April 16. The Clarets end their season at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday, May 4.
