Season to savour for seven-trophy Centre

Todmorden Sports Centre JFC has enjoyed unprecedented success this season with seven pieces of silverware.

The under nines won the Elland Road Tournament and then the shield competition.

At the home of Leeds United, they won through to the final against Thackley Thunder by conceding only one goal.

It was goalless against the Bradford side beforeAlex Thompson and Lenny Sorrell fired home the first two penalties for Tigers, with Thackley doing likewise. Noah Priestley then made a great save and Tod captain Ciaran Bourne calmly hit the clincher.

Tigers trailed to a first half goal from AFC Halifax in the Shield final but Jacob Causton levelled after Bourne’s storming run from half-way and a Sebastian Winstanley double took them clear.

Alex Thompson, Noah Priestley and Lenny Sorrell scored to ensure there was no Halifax comeback.

The under 13s won their cup final last Sunday by beating champions Ryburn 3-2 with a late winner.

On the same day the under 15s completed their double by beating St Columbus 3-1 in the cup final.

A superb individual goal by Zeb Cory-Wright divided the teams at half time but the midfield of Milo Tranmer, Zac Edwards and Keenan Hudson then took control.

Prolific James Clarke fired in the second and George Burnip’s exquisite shot left the St Columbus keeper picking the ball out of the net again.

Saints scored with 10 minutes left and brought the save of the match from the Tod keeper Jack Hallows before Joe Lord could lift the trophy.

The previous weekend the under 14s had completed a double for the second successive season.

The under 11s might have added to the haul, losing 2-1 to a last minute goal against a strong Hebden Saints side in their cup final.
