Walsden march on despite ongoing wait to find new home

They might still be waiting to secure a new base, but Walsden C&FC are certainly making themselves at home on the pitch following another Rochdale Online Alliance Premier Division success last weekend.

Dan Howley’s side gained revenge for an early season defeat at the hands of Rochdale Asia by beating them 4-3 on their home ground on Saturday.

However, they had to wait until five minutes before the end to claim maximum points with Gary Brierley completing a hat-trick.

“It was a brilliant first half from us but a very poor second,” admitted Howley.

Brierley served notice of his intent when he flashed a shot against the bar after being set up by Joe Gale.

He made sure with a 35 yard screamer then added a second with a lob over the ‘keeper.

Asia pulled one back from a corner before Brierley set up Thomas Barnes for 3-1.

Asia pulled another back and made it 3-3 despite having had a man sent off for dissent.

Walsden re-grouped and Nathan Rooks slipped the ball to Brierley who slotted home.

Walsden are without a game this weekend.
