Promoted Woodhouse United have made a flying start to life in Division One of the Rochdale Sunday League with two home wins in the space of four days.
Marc Walters’ side had a bonus when opening opponents Cardinal Villa turned up with nine men.
However, Woodhouse had to battle for a 3-0 victory against rugged opponents who defied them for an hour before last season’s leading scorer Callum Hallinan grabbed a hat-trick.
Sunday’s visitors Wardleworth had played two divisions higher than Woodhouse last season but were put in their place by 4-0.
Jordan Walker, Hallinan, Joe Whitham and Terry Lowe were on target for Woodhouse against opponents suffering their first defeat in their third game of the season.
Woodhouse play their first away game of the campaign on Sunday and it promises to be a tough one against Highfield, who finished as runners-up last season but requested not to be promoted.
Jacks House had the perfect beginning to their Rochdale Alliance campaign, thumping Fothergill and Whittles seconds 7-1 away on Saturday.
It wasn’t as plain sailing as the score suggests, however.
Jack House were on the back foot for much of the first half but took a 2-0 lead with breakaway goals from Danny Brown and Tony Sutcliffe, who produced clinical finishes.
Brown and Sutcliffe hit the target again in the second half as House took control with central midfielder Gary Brierley, right back Callum Rooks and keeper David Brierley playing well.
The other goals came from Josh Krogulski, who came off the bench to score two, and Jackson Sutcliffe.
Jacks House’s next Division One game is away to Hargreaves on Saturday.
