THE newly-crowned league champions finished the season as they started it – with a close, hard-fought victory.
Tod’s comprehensive defeat of the Hebden Sharks on Monday night had already confirmed their position as champions.
But once again Todmorden rose to the occasion. Perhaps it was the dogged approach of the opposition that sparked the Tod players into life.
The Tigers played very well - and on another day might have won. In a frantic first-half there was little to separate the two teams.
Tigers looked the team most likely to score in the second period.
Their centre-forward was giving the Tod defenders a torrid time, but - in turns - they all managed to marshal him effectively, restricting him to just one decent shot which Diggle turned around the post.
Pritchard brought the ball from the back to create an opening for Tod.
He found Caldwell on the left-wing and his cross into the Tigers’ area caused panic. England was on hand to pounce on the loose ball and steer it home.
From then Tod managed to defend resolutely, and finish the season with a run of eight clean sheets.
The boys have played brilliantly this season and it is a credit to the hard work of the coaching staff that they have been so well-drilled, have played with excellent team spirit, and most importantly of all - have thoroughly enjoyed themselves
