Marleys dominate with top five

GERRY and Sam Marley made it a brace of wins from Wollaston.

They followed up their seven of the first eight on July 30 by taking the top five positions in Luddenden Foot Homing Society’s race last Saturday.

The 269 birds entered by 18 members were released into a light west wind.

It was delayed until 2pm because of overcast conditions south of Birmingham and then to avoid heavy storms with thunder and lightning on the way and in the Calder Valley.

After the weather had cleared the winner was timed at 3.44pm followed within eight seconds by its four loft-mates.

The Marleys inevitably won the latest knock-out competition with Grogan and Lumb and Wally Lawson sharing the pool money.
