RABBIT Captain Russell Waring had his outing last week to Fleetwood Golf Club. The forecast looked ominous but the weather kept fine.
The winner over nine holes in the morning was veteran Clive Cook with 21 points. The afternoon winners of the “flat-iron trophy” were Neil Whitham and Mike Sparkes with 43 points. Peter Bailey, fresh from a week’s practising in Scotland, partnered Clive Cook to take the runner-up spot on 42 points.
Nearest the pin winner was Stu Jackson and Dave Stafford took the longest drive prize. Thanks went to Peter Borders for organising the event and to Fleetwood Golf Club.
Invitation day at Todmorden Golf Club was won by Peter Bailey and his partner Chris Thornsby from Springfield Park with 42 points.
The Silver Rabbit Qualifier on Sunday was won by Stu Jackson and second was Mark Pattison, both with net 69s.The open stroke competition was won by S.Hill, with Warren Duckworth second on a card play-off from Michael Hartley.
The Midweek Medal was won by Dave Stafford with a net 65, playing off a handicap of one, closely followed by Michael Murray, also on 65, off a handicap of three. Third was Ian Smith on 66.
l IRENE Muldowney won the Lady Captain’s Prize in a competition played over two weeks.
After the first round she led with net 68, followed by Alison Barker on 71 and Gill Neely on 74.
In the second round, the best score was by Ann Dewhirst with a net 67. Gill Neely followed on 70 and Irene also scored 70 to give her a combined total of 138 to win her first “major” at the club.
Ann Dewhirst was runner up on 143 on a card play-off from Alison Barker who was third, with Gill Neely in fourth on 144.
There was only one birdie two in the competition, recorded by Pauline Stafford on the 14th.
A recent nine-hole competition was won by Val Cowie with 15 points.
