Mistakes cost Borough dear

Kendal 4

Todmorden Borough 1

West Lancashire League Division Two

BOROUGH never recovered from a three-goal first half deficit.

They had competed well with third-placed Kendal, but a series of mistakes ruled out any chance of an away victory.

They were behind within five minutes after the defence failed to deal with a long ball and goalkeeper Jamie Shackleton’s clearance went to a Kendal player who slotted it home.

More mistakes ended with a second goal for the home side on 12 minutes, before Borough rallied playing some nice football.

But they were rocked back on their heels when a free kick squirmed in at the back post.

Borough’s midfield had to work hard against a well organised side, with a left winger who was a constant thorn in the right side of Borough’s defence.

They fought back though and pulled one back thanks to Elliot Gilford from a Karl Stanley corner on the stroke of half-time.

With a strong wind behind them in the second half they created plenty of chances.

Oliver Wood had a good header from a Chris Kay cross and Stanley went close with a long range shot.

But Borough were caught on the break and conceded a fourth goal.

Still they fought on Wood had another headed chance before being replaced by Dave Patrick, who then had a shot headed off the line.

But it was all too late for Borough who must travel again next week to GSK Ulverston Rangers determined to cut out the mistakes.
