Eight-times champ Alison doubles up

Alison Barker is the ladies champion at Todmorden Golf Club for an eighth time.

The Championship was played over two weeks and she followed up a gross score of 91 the first round with an 87 on her second round.

She also had a birdie on the 14th hole.

Julia White was runner-up, just one shot behind after rounds of 89 and 90.

Irena Brown had a birdie on the fifth.

Gill Neely won a recent 18 hole stableford competition with 33 points, beating Edna Snook on a card count back.

The ladies from the club went to play at Branshaw, near Haworth, on one of the hottest days of the year.

The moorland course offered marvellous views .

In the first round of the George Seel competition Alison Barker led with a nett 70 from Ann Dewhurst.

Ann and Irena Brown both had birdies.

In last Thursday’s second round Alison Barker shot a nett 69 to gain her second major success in quick succession.

She was helped by a birdie on the 10th hole.

Ann Dewhurst came second following her nett 67 while Jean Kirk reduced her handicap to 23, with a day’s best 66.

Henry Butterworth’s great run in the Halifax-Huddersfield Union’s junior match play came to an end in the semi-finals at Lightcliffe on Monday.

The Hebden Bridge player lost 5 and 4 to Huddersfield’s Josh Morton, who will meet Jon Fleetwood at Saddleworth on Sunday, September 21.
