Having an eight on their cards did not prevent Phil Moran and Iain Powell winning their sections in Medal Five at Mount Skip last Saturday.

After recent pleasant weather, conditions were windy and cold andthose playing in the morning had to resort to wearing winter golf attire and waterproofs.

Moran had the score of the day in Division Two - a fantastic nett 63.

His eight came on the picturesque par three eighth hole, high above Hebden Bridge. This is not the easiest hole to play in such windy conditions at a height of more than 1000 feet above sea level!

It was Moran’s second good score in recent weeks and his handicap has now come down four shots to 21.

Skip’s top golfer Powell won Division One. His eight came at the very first hole but he then played some superb golf for the remainder of the round, five under gross, with a back nine score of 30 to score a superb 66 nett.

He edged out Martyn Astin on count back.

Skip’s seniors got off to a bad start in their opening Lawrence Batley League match of the season, losing 6-2 at home to Todmorden last Friday.

Chris Hoyle and Ken Weatherill were their only winners, with the other pairings of Clive Richards and Graham Boulton, Phil Moran and Maurice Lowrey, Stuart Spencer and Chad Allott all losing.
