Scott Waites is a hot favourite to win his second BDO world title at The Lakeside Country Club, Surrey this evening.
The Pennine Housing 2000 worker from Fixby faces unseeded Canadian Jeff Smith in the best of 13 sets final at 6.40pm.
Waites is an 8-15 shot to add to his 2012 title success, when he beat Tony O’Shea 7-1, after blitzing fourth seed Jamie Hughes 6-1 in his semi-final.
The 38-year-old ninth seed had earlier beaten top seed Glen Durrant, Geert de Vos and Willem Mandingers.
Smith, 40, beat Dutchman Richard Veenstra 6-5 in the other last-four tie. His earlier victims included former winner Martin Adams.
After comeback wins over de Vos and Durrant, Waites strolled to success over Hughes, taking a 5-0 lead in 46 minutes.
‘Silencer’ Smith, who reached the semi-finals at Lakeside last year, edged past Veenstra in a tense contest.
