DEBUTANT, Todmorden’s Michael Murray, acquitted himself well in the Halifax-Huddersfield District Union golf team.

Playing controlled deliberate golf, he secured the point required for Halifax Huddersfield to win 24 - 12 against the York Union at Easingwold Golf Club on Sunday.

Two up with two to play, Michael had a stroke of bad luck when his approach to the 17th hole ended up under a broken branch which was still attached to the tree.

Unfortunately he could only make a five losing the hole.

His opponent with the honour on the 18th tee hit a poor tee shot ensuring that the best he could score was a par five.

Michael plotted his way to the green hitting a rescue club off the tee, and with a three feet birdie put remaining, his opponent conceded the hole and the match.

Michael was making his debut after his recent PS Cockroft victory at Bradley Park.

In the foursomes, he teamed up with former Todmorden team mate Dave Stafford.

Both played very well to win their match five and four and ensure their team took a 7 - 5 lead after the foursomes.

l AT Todmorden Golf Club terrible weather last week affected most of the competitions.

First the ladies George Seel second round was rained off until today.

Second the Club Championship was postponed until Saturday due to thunder and lightning and then the Captains v Presidents match had to be shortened due to “winter league” type weather.

The Presidents team came out the winners and everyone received a momento of the occasion.

There was an 18-hole fun competition played later on Saturday, with Mick Wardrobe emerging as the winner followed by Chris Redmond in second.

The ladies have been successful in reaching the semi-final of the ADP League and will play on Sunday September 4 at Northcliffe Golf Club where both semi-finals and final will be held on the same day.
