WALSDEN’S third team will not be playing in the Towergate Halifax League’s Sunday Section next season.
They were one of three clubs bidding for two vacant places in the Sunday Section.
But at last Thursday’s annual meeting at Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club, Thornton, from Bradford, and Almondbury Wesleyan, from Huddersfield, were elected to play in the Sunday Section in 2012.
Thornton, who already field sides in the Halifax League on a Saturday, were expected to get in and duly did by a vote of 21-0.
Huddersfield Central League club Almondbury were elected 15-6 but Walsden were rejected by a 10-7 show of hands.
Walsden cricket chairman Allan Stuttard said the club was disappointed not to be elected and would have to continue playing in the Central Lancashire League’s Sunday competition.
It had originally applied to the Halifax League because of the irregularities of fixtures in the Central Lancashire competition, which did not allow for games every week and therefore did not help to keep a stable team.
