Run chase doesn’t come off in Walsden’s final game

WALSDEN ended a disappointing season with a defeat at Milnrow.

But it was a close thing between the two Central Lancashire League mid-table teams with Walsden just failing in a run chase by 28 runs.

Walsden chose to field, but the Milnrow top order all scored heavily as the home side got to 231 for eight.

Jamie Shackleton took three for 62, skipper Chris Dewhirst three for 63 and Elliott Gilford two for 50.

Gilford was on form with the bat too, top-scoring with 51, well supported by Kris Halstead, who made 42.

Dewhirst got 24 runs at the end, but the visitors were all out for 203.

l WALSDEN seconds had another good victory, beating Milnrow at Scott Street by 149 runs.

It meant they ended second in their league, a good return for a team fielding many youngsters.

There were contributions from all the home batsmen, especially Kris Garland, who hit 74, as they made 231 for eight.

With the ball, Mark Halstead was in great form taking six for 28 as the visitors were skittled out for 82. Josh Barnes also took three for 26 with Joe Gale getting the other wicket.
