Martin's head shave fundraiser was part of the school's 'Make Isolation Fun' campaign, which aimed to spread joy during this difficult time whilst raising vital funds for Yorkshire's Brain Tumour Charity.

He initially promised to don the new hairdo if he raised £1,500 and was overjoyed to raise more than double his target, despite dreading having to cut off his locks.

Martin said: "This was a never to be repeated experience! I will happily cheer ‘the return of the grey’ over the next weeks.

"I was really happy that it put a smile on a lot of faces at a difficult time for so many and also very happy that we raised over £3000 for Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity.

"The support achieved in just a week was phenomenal. I aimed for £1500 and didn’t expect to raise it! Thank you to everyone who contributed before watching my pain! The fantastic staff at Ravenscliffe contributed another £600 to see my shave become a multi coloured Mohican.

"Even on the day that I shaved my head, there were people undergoing Brain Surgery in LGI. The phenomenal work by Paul Chumas and the neurosurgery team based there continues, despite the Covid 19 restrictions. They are a brilliant team."

The Yorkshire Brain Tumour Charity, is close to Martin's heart, as his son Jake had two lifesaving operations during his teenage years. During his recovery process, which coincided with studying for his A Levels, Jake had to shield from the outside world, much like many vulnerable members of the Calderdale community during lockdown.

Martin said: "Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity are the leading brain tumour charity in our region, dedicated to raising funds for life changing research and patient support.

"YBTC support anyone diagnosed with, or affected by, a primary brain tumour in Yorkshire. Their support is for adult and child patients, as well as their family and carers.

"They provide a range of financial, practical and emotional support, which is available for as long as it is needed. Paul Chumas, the surgeon who operated on my own son in 2014 and 2016 at LGI, was operating on Thursday and Friday. Their life saving work continues despite Covid 19."
