AUTHORS of a book outlining both the history of cricket and leisure in the town through the 20th century and into the new millennium are holding a book signing session on Saturday, December 10.
Malcolm, Freda and Brian Heywood launched In A League Of Their Own, about cricket and leisure in 20th Century Todmorden earlier this year.
They will be at Todmorden Information Centre, Burnley Road, from noon to 2.30pm to signs copies of their books.
As well as telling the story of cricket, especially at Todmorden Cricket Club, the latest book traces other sports such as soccer and rugby as well as many other social and leisure activities.
These include music, theatre, rifle shooting, billiards, tennis, athletics and many others.
Lavishly illustrated, the book culminates with a view of the present sporting and leisure scene and primarily, via its many anecdotes, it is about people, say the authors.
They received support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to publish the book after years of research, including detailed history and statistics relating to Todmorden Cricket Club, a portion of the narrative which follows on from their previous book about the 19th century, Cloth Caps And Crazy Cricket.
The paperback sells for £5 and the hardback is £10.
The book is on sale at Border Books and Todmorden News Centre, as well as Todmorden Information Centre.
