Arc Publications, the UK’s leading publisher of international poetry in translation, began the Hebden Bridge leg of its third annual UK tour of some of the world’s greatest poets this month, and have announced the line-up for a November date.
With events running at the Crown Inn, Crown Street, Hebden Bridge, early October saw Wioletta Greg (Poland) and Ivana Milankov (Serbia) reading from their work.
This will be followed on Sunday, November 2, at 6.30pm at the same venue (£3 entry) when Sigurður Pálsson (Iceland), Janne Nummela (Finland) and Katariina Vuorinen (Finland) will be the featured writers.
The Icelandic poet, novelist, playwright and translator Sigurður Pálsson is one of Iceland’s best-known literary figures.
His poetry has been translated into ten languages.
Pálsson received the Icelandic Literature Award in 2007, and has also won France’s two most prestigious literary awards as the leading Icelandic poet of his generation.
This will be his first tour of readings in the UK.
In Finland, poetry is a part of everyday life. Nummela and Vuorinen’s poetry is experimental, humorous, melancholy and rich, ranging from sparse minimalism to pop-culture references without missing a beat.
