Friends get monthly choice

The Friends of the Picture House in Hebden Bridge are to get their own monthly film slot showing classic and much-loved movies.

The first ‘The Friends of the Picture House presents...’ will be on Saturday, December 12, at 4.30pm when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid will be shown - and cinema-goers will get the chance to make suggestions for future screenings.

The 1969 classic western stars Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katharine Ross and won an Oscar for screenplay writer William Goldman.

Paul Knights, chair of the Friends group, said: “We’re so thrilled to be taking responsibility for this new monthly Saturday tea time screening. We’ll be using them to promote the work of the Friends and encourage more people to get involved in supporting the Picture House.

“We’d also like to make each screening that little bit special, with some food or music to tie in with the film. Most of all we want to show great films that people will love, so we really need to hear from people via email (, Facebook (Friends of the Picture House) or Twitter (@FriendsofPH) what they would like to see on the big screen.”
