Todmorden Community Brass Band will link up with a national event when they play from the bandstand at Centre Vale Park on Sunday, September 9.
Linking with Communities in Tune’s Bandstand Marathon event – marking the end of the London 2012 Festival and an amazing summer of sport and culture on the final day of the Paralympics - this free concert will entertain audiences between 3pm and 5pm, offering everyone who comes along the opportunity to be part of the closing celebrations for 2012. The concert is just one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking place simultaneously across the UK, making up the Bandstand Marathon – the official closing event of the London 2012 Festival. “We’re hoping for a really good afternoon and that the people of Todmorden will come along and support their local brass band,” says band chairperson Liz Hinchliffe. “There will be refreshments for sale on the day and we just hope for a bit of fair weather!”
The concert also marks some band members either going off to university or leaving to take on new opportunities so the band are appealing for any experienced brass players who would like to join to make contact. Just come to the event or see website www.todmordencommunitybrass.co.uk
The Training and 5 Note bands are soon to begin a new term on Tuesday, September 11, from 5.30pm. Todmorden Community Brass offers an instrument, tuition and ensemble playing for as little as 75p per week.
