Slade, Wizzard and other purveyors of Christmas musical fare will be off the menu at True Faith to be held next Saturday (December 20).
“I think we’ll all have had enough of sleigh bells and forced bonhomie by then and be craving some proper indie tunes,” said DJ, Mark Hodkinson. “So, it will be back to the usual beautiful paeans to melancholy, grief, abandonment and heartache, oh yes.”
Along these lines, Mark will play tracks by The Smiths, New Order, Blur, Happy Mondays, Talking Heads, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Chameleons.
Mark, formerly guitar player with The Monkey Run, who supported The Stone Roses and The Wedding Present back in the day, and later played with Calder Valley band The Last Peach will also play plenty of dance music, namely Heatwave, Dee Lite, Chic, Daft Punk, ACR, De la Soul and Grandmaster Flash.
Last time out a selection of reggae went down well and Mark says he may play more this time: “Eek a Mouse got them skanking, along with Junior Murvin. I may get very brave and give Prince Far I a bash this time or something relatively new like Matisyahu or Buju Banton.”
True Faith is at Nelson’s, Crown Street, Hebden Bridge, on Saturday, December 20 (9pm to 1am, admission free).
