Spring in our step for comedy and dance

Ready for Calder Valley Youth Theatre's Big Spring Concert, 2014
Ready for Calder Valley Youth Theatre's Big Spring Concert, 2014

This week Calder Valley Youth Theatre will be presenting their annual Big Spring Concert at The Ted Hughes Theatre, Calder High School in Mytholmroyd this Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 (7.15pm).

Since the recent success of Cats and Grease, CVYT have been inundated with interest from local children wanting to be a part of this progressive Youth Theatre. More than 30 of the most talented children from along the Calder Valley aged from 8 to 18 will be performing some of their favourite contemporary songs and songs from some of the most popular musicals from recent years.

The cast will also be performing an array of comedy and dance devised especially for theconcert.

The pool of talent from along the Calder Valley has been harnessed, developed and nurtured by the team of dedicated volunteers at CVYT for over 20 years. The Big Spring Concert is typically an opportunity for younger members to try out new songs, and to develop hidden talents. In many cases, the younger members go on to perform at the main show in November each year, so this show is very important to both the cast and the youth theatre in identifying potential new talent.

l After the recent success of ‘Grease’ last November, CVYT now have to maintain the high standard they have set for themselves and have chosen to perform another iconic musical from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical stable, ‘Starlight Express’.

It promises to be a huge challenge, not just for the talented cast of children but for the production team and crew who will need to ensure this next project is as good as the last. Audition information available at www.cvyt.co.uk
