Calderdale Council issue warning over moorland fires

Calderdale Council has issued a warning over moorland fires in the wake of the blaze on Saddleworth Moor.

The army has now been called in to help tackle the fire, which has been raging for three days and covers around 3.7 miles.

Around 50 homes have had to be evacuated because of the incident.

And the council says the long period of hot weather currently being experienced by the borough means there is an increased risk of moorland fires.

The council say they are working closely with their partners to identify any potential issues, and advises people to take extra care on moorlands.
