A special presentation was given to John Walsh after he decided to hang up his gardening gloves following 41 years’ service with the Lower Valley Safer, Greener, Cleaner team.

Mr Walsh was handed an engraved pocket watch, a selection of assorted whiskies and some lottery tickets for his big send-off.

Phillip Schofield, area manager for the Safer, Greener, Cleaner team, said: “Hopefully one of the tickets comes up trumps for him.

“He’s been a fantastic employee and a very loyal and committed member of the team.”

Mr Walsh was born and bred in Brighouse and spent most of his career working in the town.

He worked as a craftsman in horticulture at Wellholme Park, Bailiff Bridge and the Lower Valley.

Mr Schofield added: “He’s an extremely skilled landscaper, very dedicated to his profession.

“It’s a shame to lose him but after 41 years he felt it was the right time to move on and spend a bit of time with his family.”

The Safer, Cleaner, Greener Teams deliver grounds maintenance, countryside services, nature reserve management services and play ground maintenance.
