Festival in aid of NSPCC

Over a hundred hand-crafted pop star scarecrows have been made by locals and entered into the festival.

Entries will be displayed throughout the village during the festival and there will be a prize for the winning scarecrow, voted for by those visiting over the weekend.

This annual event, now in its second year, is expected to attract hundreds of visitors and there will be plenty for children and adults to do and enjoy all weekend long.

A number of activities are taking place throughout the village, including a Summer Fair at Withinfields School, refreshments and children’s entertainment at the Southowram Community Centre and St Annes Church, a hog roast outside Village News on Saturday, and live music and a BBQ at the Cock and Bottle on Sunday, where a raffle will be drawn at 7pm.

Scarecrow Festival brochures including a village map and a voting form are available from both Sam’s Newsagents and Village News.

Money raised from the event will help the NSPCC protect more children across the region and prevent abuse.

Helen Verity, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Halifax, said: “The Scarecrow Festival promises to be a great event and there will be lots of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy.
