National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) aims to raise awareness and to celebrate the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships bring to businesses and the wider economy.

This year’s event is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will take place next week (March 6-10) with the theme “Ladder of Opportunity”.

There will be activities happening at the college throughout the week with events ranging from a job swap, where apprentices have the chance to swap with staff members, to staff from Covea Insurance visiting the college to give talks to the students.

The college works with 250 other further education colleges, private training providers and voluntary sector organisations and in the last 12 months has helped more than 100 apprentices find their perfect job.

Dillon Blakesley, Vacancy Co-ordinator Apprentice at the Calderdale College, helps apprentices with their applications.

He said: “The best thing about my apprenticeship is being able to support other young people with their apprenticeship applications and give them first-hand advice and experience.

“I work with candidates to improve their employability skills, to give them greater confidence and to ensure they find their perfect apprenticeship.”

Charlotte Palethorpe, Business Administration Apprentice at Calderdale Council said: “I am so thankful for all the support I received from Calderdale College. My training officer has been extremely helpful throughout my apprenticeship and I would have never achieved my goals without them. My apprenticeship journey has been a really positive first step on my career ladder and it has helped me become a more professional individual.”

Calderdale College believes that National Apprentice Week is the perfect opportunity for businesses to showcase the career progressions of their apprentices and the benefits they bring.
