Halifax food business says demand for Japanese ingredients is booming

A Halifax food business is championing the use of Japanese ingredients in the borough.

Cottage Foods (Yorkshire) Ltd, an ingredient wholesaler, is expanding its specialist Asian ingredient range and now supplies over 100 authentic craft Japanese ingredients like hand-picked yuzu juice, aged soy sauce and koji paste across its Yorkshire restaurant customer base.

Alistair Cullen, Managing Director of Cottage Foods, said: “The growth in Japanese ingredients for British cuisine has been astounding over the last 12 months.

"Our chefs are craving an array of Japanese flavours for their dishes from craft soy sauces to miso’s.

"One of the finest restaurants in Calderdale, The Shibden Mill Inn, is a big user of Asian ingredients. The Head Chef Will Webster is really challenging the food scene with the utilisation of Japanese flavours such as miso's and furikakes in his cutting edge cuisine that have led to a myriad of awards for the local gastro pub."
