Victorian themed fun as past and present pupils celebrate Norland School's 150th anniversary

Pupils and staff, past and present, came together with the whole community to celebrate 150 years of Norland CE School.

Celebrations were held at the school, which opened in 1872, earlier this month to mark the special occasion.

Children came to school dressed in Victorian costume and enjoyed a tea party in the afternoon with toys and games from that era.

Past pupils, parents and members of the church and community enjoyed refreshments and cake, organised and served by the PTFA at the school, while having an opportunity to look through old photos and log books before the turn of the century.

One former pupil said: “School was as friendly and welcoming today as I remember it. Thank you for inviting us to your special day.”

Another added: “Lovely school, happy memories.”

A presentation from Year six pupils detailed the school's history through old photos and entries from school log books that children in school had researched.

Past and present parents and pupils shared their memories and experiences of school.

The Year six class planted a tree, which had been kindly donated by a member of the local community, and a time capsule in the school grounds for future generations to learn about the school in 2022.

Rev Jeanette Roberts brought the celebrations to a close with a blessing in school.
