Calderdale Tier 2 lockdown: Coronavirus cases see jump of 229 over the weekend

The number of recorded coronavirus cases in Calderdale jumped by 229 over the weekend, official figures show.

The news comes as Calderdale is placed in Tier 2 in the new national tiered approach to COVID-19 restrictions, announced by the government this afternoon.

Public Health England figures show that 2,533 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Monday (October 12) in Calderdale, up from 2,304 the same time on Friday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Calderdale now stands at 1,198 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 935.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 42,009 over the period, to 617,688.

Calderdale's cases were among the 73,075 recorded across Yorkshire and The Humber, a figure which rose by 6,245 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
